A man drove a Chrysler over a levee in Baton Rouge, it went airborne and landed in the Mississippi River. A fire fighter with the Baton Rouge Fire Department was the first to the scene. He had been trained in water rescue and was able to hold the driver's head above the water until more help arrived.

Firefighters searched the water around the car for other people who might have been in the crash but didn't find anyone, Fire Department spokesman Robert Combs said.

The Baton Rouge Police Department's dive team also searched the area and did not find anyone, Kelly said.

The driver was receiving treatment at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City at last report. It is unknown why he drove over the levee, but police do not believe it was an accident.
